well, it's my splash binary

now that i have got the mkinitrd initrd's to work

appending to an existing initrd with >> locates the image as valid, but nothing related to bootsplash happens!

using > gives my an initrd that i can't boot or mount because of errors like i've mentioned before. i keep wondering what wrong...

i'll try yours again - for a while i had a problem with all initrds. is it built for kernel 2.6.5 (does that even make a difference?) and what directory does it point to? /etc/bootsplash/current? i hope so becoz then i don't need to make a new one to change it...

indeed, /etc/bootsplash/current
Nope built for 2.4.22, but it doesn't matter since I use the same image for my 2.6.0 as well

The only thing you have to do is copy that thing to the location specified in lilo.conf and run lilo... Then reboot and if it doesn't appear, run 'dmesg | less' then look for a line that mentions bootsplash. There should always be at least one. (if you don't find it do 'dmesg | grep bootsplash')

thanx
o'm a grubber so splash=silent on the kernel line and on the next line initrd /initrd-<whatever>.img should do the trick

thanx a lot again, if it works

Well, I did find reactivated.net through gogle, but it didn't work either. There is supposedly a patch for 2.6.6 that works excellently...check the bootsplash mailing lists for the link (bootsplash.org, and click the mailing-list link, then archives). I'm downloading 2.6.6 now, I'll let you know how it goes.

i'll look up the patch soon.

i can't get even your initrd to work
it's not recognized
i'll try mounting it and checking the linuxrc

i think there's something wrong with the splash binary that i have. any ideas? i have yet to run splash.sh though... i'll see about it and report back

no unfortunately. it seems only gentoo gets it right. FC1/FC2/SMGL all can't get it to work

try getting an initrd, and the splash + fbmngplay binaries through a gentoo user. make sure you have the bootsplash patch compiled in though.
