amsn 0.95 & LE2005
hello
as written above, I tried to install amsn 0.95 on Mandriva 10.2 (LE2005). I wonder if it has been a good idea.
First, I used the mandriva 2006 rpm, but while logging in, the program required tls1.4.1-and-so-on.tar.gz, which it didn't find on the servers. So I used the last package from the mandrake coocker directory and it required
libopenssl0.9.8-0.9.8b-1mdk.i586.rpm
libtcl8.4-8.4.13-1mdk.i586.rpm
libtcltls1.50-1.5.0-1mdk.i586.rpm (I found this one only with rpm.pbone.net)
openssl-0.9.8b-1mdk.i586.rpm
rootcerts-20051111-1mdk.noarch.rpm
tcl-8.4.13-1mdk.i586.rpm
(I don't remember in which order...)
I updated all that stuff, but I had to make
libtcl8.4-8.4.5-9mdk and libtcl8.4-8.4.13-1mdk co-exist (is that possible ?), since while updating, rpm complained that the older package was necessary for already installed programs, and the dependencies - if I went further with updating libtcl8.4 -
were awful and concerned more & more programs such as python.
So I have both the older and the newer version of libtcl8.4 on my system, and I have been able to update (or install) the 6 packages I talked about, and last, amsn !
the program seems to work correctly, but I wonder if there's not a better way for using the newest programs while having an old distro.
I know the tool urpmi, but while configuring it, I put the paths for the 10.2 distro, as I have indeed this distro, and as I didn't want the updating process to be chaotic.
So what can I do, or what should have I done in this case ?
Any help would be appreciated
Best regards
