AMaViS not listening on tcp port

Hi

I've just installed amavis-postfix for on my Debian Woody system and am having some trouble with it. It seems to start without giving any errors, but isn't listening for incoming mail (from Postfix) on 10024, as it should be.

I have left the following at it's default setting in amavisd.conf:

$inet_socket_port = 10024; # accept SMTP on this local TCP port

I can't see anything else in the config file that looks like it could cause problems.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem, or what I could try?

I've just fixed this problem by replacing amavis-postfix with a backport of amavisd-new from http://www.backports.org/debian/

Incidentally, I had real trouble installing this, as it wouldn't install various bits of itsself and then complained about missing files during the configuration process.

I eventually found someone who had experienced the same problem and who told me to purge the package using dpkg (dpkg --purge amavisd-new)
