adding X after install

Howdy Folks,

I've been running RH8 for a little while on a server, and want to convert it to move of a desktop machine. This will require installing X, Gnome, etc.

Is there a list of packages I need to install?
What packages does selecting 'X Window System' during the RH8 install actually install?
Is there an easy way to go back and just install this stuff from the CDs?

I'm pretty sure all packages that begin with X deal with the X windows system. Pop in your RedHat cd and go to the RPMS directory and install everything that begins with X. Then you'll have to install a Gnome or whatever.

you can also run "redhat-config-packages" and choose the X environment. this could save you from a possible dependancy nightmare...

Don't you need X to use redhat-config-package? Isn't that like getting tar in a tarred format?

the redhat-config-* all have a --noui command line option, so I can do it w/o X already there.

seems the --noui commandline option only works with redhat-config-xfree86 (or whatever its' called).

Had to resort to an 'upgrade' re-install from CD to get all the gnome/x/WM stuff in place.
