Acroread 7.0 won't read pdf

I have justed installed Acroread 7.0 in Gentoo, but when I tried to read an e-book in pdf format I got an error message saying that the file couldn't be opened because of a missing plug-in. A visit to Adobe.com didn't help as I couldn't find any download link for plug-ins.
The e-book opens OK in Windoze but as it's about doing stuff with Linux, that's not exactly helpful.
If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

if you do not have OpenLDAP you might have better luck getting Adobe Acroread working for you if you installed it...

I had a similar problem. I fixed it but didn't like the version 7 so I went back to 5.1. If I remember correctly I deleted a file from the plugins directory where in acroread was installed. The error message gave me a clue as to the filename. I then went to plugins directory and just deleted the file associated with the plugin. Worked fine then but I just didnt like it for various reason like slow load time, it acted squirrelly, and it kept trying to 'call home', among other things.

I'm afraid the OpenLDAP install didn't help but thanks for the suggestion. I've discovered that the plug-in is a security key to stop the e-book being copied. Unfortunately the key will only work in Windoze. I enjoy irony as much as the next man, but in a Linux book this is taking the wee wee.

I have the same problem with a Sybex Linux+ book that I bought a few months ago. I agree with you, its very ironic that its a Linux book, that they have made so difficult to read on Linux without running the cdrom.
