"Accessing the Package Management Failed"

I try to install something (a new kernel) with YaST in Suse 11.1 (32-bit) and I am getting the following message at the "Load the Configured Repositories" step:

Accessing the Package Management Failed

System management is locked by the application with pid 3880 (/usb/sbin/packagekitd).

How can I kill this application?
Would you advise me something else?

Thanks

Yes.
  • Understand what is going on: It is probably the case that something of which you are aware has caused an application to be locking (accessing) the package database. Find out what the process is, eg
    Code:
    ps -ef | grep 3880
  • think about that carefully and decide whather you want to kill it; if there is a strong chance that this process just needs a little more time to complete, give it that time.
  • If not, kill it.
