I have a dell dimension 2400 which comes with the 845g chipset and onboard graphics.. .Well the onboard graphics I decided weren't enough for me so I cracked open the case and looked at the mobo... Nice NO AGP SLOTS (high pitched scream).. I bought a BFG OC'ed 256mb Geforce5500 FX PCI card.
Here lies my problem,
my fps is crap when I run glxgears 2600-2900fps... I'm wondering whether or not Linux is using both the cards causing slow performance and slop fps on my machine..

First, I'm impressed by that fps, wow, I'm lucky to get 100 fps, but then again I've got a Savage ProTwister KN199.
Second, try taking the intel agp controller out of your kernel, as well as, adding the BusID line to your xorg.conf (man xorg.conf for details).
2600-2900fps sounds about right for a 5500FX, sorry champ. glxgears however is a crappy benchmark, try globs or just try a game to see how it stacks up.
