'rpm' problems.

Done.

How could I get the above to work? It's posting the
"error: %post(jdk-1.5.0_05-fcs.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 255"
so I'm assuming it's not setting up right. I redownloaded the file but the same thing happens.

I've removed the rpm with 'rpm -e --noscripts jdk-1.5.0_05-fcs' and tried to reinstall with the same above error. Any ideas? How do I get this thing to install successfully? Can someone verify if the same thing happens on their distro?

Thanks,
Devyn

It installs fine on Mandriva 2006. Try "rpm -Uvh <package>". Sometimes there is a dependency and the normal install doesn't catch it (althogh I'll admit it has been a long while since I've seen it happen).

The error is in the post install script. What you can do is install it as such "rpm -Ivh <package> --noscripts". Then, run rpm -qp --scripts <package> >>scripts.sh. Look for the beginning of the post install script (starts at the top and goes until "preuninstall scriptlet (using /bin/sh):"). Cut every thing below that, then execute it with debugging, loke so: "sh -x script.sh |tee script.log". This will allow you to watch where it is dying, and give you something to report to Sun (if it is a bug in their script).

'rpm' problems.

Hi GrueMaster,

Sorry for the late response. Looks like a bug in their script though I went through my system uninstalling any possibly conflicting instance of Java and that did the trick. On my next system reboot everything reinstalled fine.

I have tried as far as using the '--noscripts' switch but not as far as dissecting it. Will try it next time it happens again.

Thank You very much,
Dev
