Yum Prob: Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?r

hello experts,

On FC9, all of a sudden yum is not working. Following is the error

[root@localhost com_installer]# yum install php-xml
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...ra-9&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (110, 'Connection timed out')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again

I checked out the url (http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...ra-9&arch=i386) in the browser..it opens properly.

also ran yum update , yum clear all .. and also updated the fedora.repo file .. but still the problem persists.

Same here with x86_64 and still a problem as of March 5, 2009.

Is our problem caused by the "DNS Resolver not reliable" bug in the "Common F10 bugs" list on the fedoraproject.org wiki?

Could retrieve mirrorlist with CentOS5.5

In my case turned out that the machine, which was a nameserver on a restricted subnet just for nameservers, was blocked at the firewall from getting a translation address for external commo. As soon as that was permitted, yum worked fine.
Oops, subject should be Could NOT retrieve....
