Using suse 10.0 can only use ftp to freeNAS server

I have a small home network and back up all my files to a box that I run freenas on. My other boxes run linux and I have one xp box. I found that while transfering a large iso image file to the server, it will stop and then the server will reboot. I am using konqueror and ftp://lan address to the box, open a second konqueror window and drag and drop the folder. I can not browse the server any other way from my suse 10.0 box. On the xp box, I see the server in the explorer network neighborhood and can transfer that same large file with no problem. I am unable to figure out if I have a configuration problem and what to check. I set up samba services and cifs. If cifs is correct for linux, do I need to tweek it so I can see it in konqueror like I can using xp? My firewall is set for the external zone.
