I have just configured a Directory Server and I have been able to login using the credentials as a Directory Manager on the server.
I am working on the server through VMWare.
After logging into the server, when I am trying to add a user, say "user1" I am unable to do so, in the name of the user name field, all I can see is a "u" and not the complete user name, the same thing happens in case I try to setup a password, so i really don't know whether the password that I am setting up is being accepted or not.
Also while trying to add a user, i can see the logs running in the background on the terminal, that a java program is running as I typing or clicking on any button.
Can someone suggest me what to do to proceed ahead, I know its a strange issue, but I have to do it.
what service is this, you're very vague about what you're actually running. I'd assume you mean 389-ds / centos-ds / redhat-ds but your descriptions don't really match up to the idm console.
Erm, ok so in the idm console when you right click and get a new user, you have first name, surname and below those two is the username. You can put whatever you want in that username field, so I don't understand what you're confused about. The default username for David Jones would be DJones, so maybe you've only put a first name in and that's all it's compiled for the username yet? It is a fairly ropey java application, and *can* do weird things though. are there any java exceptions visible from the terminal you run it from?
Actually I created it as a test server before I could go on live with it.
So I just tried to create a user with the name "User 1" and the username as: "user1" but all I could see being typed in the field was just a "U" both in the name and username fields.
However as I go on typing or pressing backspace I could see in the terminal, that as I was pressing a key or clicking any filed a new java entry was popping up in each line, as if it is registering the commands, but were just not visible to me in the fields.
Same was happening while I was typing the password for the same user.
If you wish I can show you the screenshot as well.
I know, that java can make you pull your hair, LOLz
