Trying to install 389 Directory Server running into conflicts with nspr...

So I am trying to install 389 DS on RHEL 5.6. I was able to get good rpm packages (we can't use yum here, god I wish we could). I get to the nspr package and I keep getting conflict messages from an older version. The older version won't let me uninstall it with rpm -e and the new version won't install over it even with -f. I am at a bit of an impasse. Any suggestions?
Have to get nspr done so i can get nss so i can get svrcore...etc, etc...its dependency hell

If you can not use yum ( used to get ride of the "its dependency hell" )
and rpm is not working because of the "its dependency hell"

build from source and role your own rpm
