Troubleshooting assistance with samba share access (my own fault)


Its my own fault, I've upgraded from Samba version 3 to version 4. It told me there were config differences when I updated, I reviewed them and they 'appeared' like there was no major changes.

However, for some unknown reason I've now lost access to my shares and I'm struggling to identify the cause of the problem to resolve it.

Could someone provide me with some guidance? I've checked logs and smbstatus, I get actual error messages but I don't know how to solve them.

Some of the info I found when reading logs appeared to be with CUPS/Printing. Of which I have non connected, or do i want to print/it be a print server.

I have re-done my smbpassword (sudo smbpasswd -a adam) and ensured that it matches what I had before.

I'm sure its an authentication issue of some kind that's different between 3 and 4.

Any guidance would be very welcomed.

As way of an update i've read through the samba troubleshooting and done some additional googling.

There was a useful thread here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1962617 that explained that security = share (which is what i used) was removed and went into detail about the potential proposed changes that would be needed if security share was removed in samba 4 (which it was)

So, modified my config to exclude "map to guest = bad user" and hurray I have access again. Something so simple eh ?

The modified entry:

I was getting:
