Question Setting Environment variable permanently

HI Everybody,

I am facing a problem while setting up environment variable like, "export ORACLE_SID=PIP" in a particular user(SIDadm), its setting but when I'm logout from that user then the variable is removing. After login again of that user found that the variable is not there which i set it.
Noted that, I'm using Redhat 5.6 64 bit of OS, and using SAP applications.

Looking forward for your best opinion.

Typically you set those in your username's .bash_profile file.

There is a more global location, but I'm not sure that's the right choice here.

The bash profile will be parsed each time you log in, providing you are running bash.

Example of a way to check is:
Code:
$ env | grep SHELL
SHELL=/bin/bash

add that "export ORACLE_SID=PIP" entry in .bash_profile file on your home directory ( default home directory for user SIDadm could be /home/SIDadm).
