Server is restarting at startup

Hi, i recently had a power failure error and my system crushed and i needed to reinstall but keeping all the data on the disks,

after reinstalling the kernel, the system keeps rebooting forever, the first thing that came to my mind was the default run level is 6, so i launched linux rescue from the cd and i checked and the default run level was correct.

what could possibly be the reason for this

Best regards,
Elie

Where exactly is it rebooting at? Boot with a rescue disk and check your logs to start with determining where it's rebooting at or what is getting loaded before the reboot.

Lightbulb Desktop, then server

Hi
I too am new to Linux.
My workaround was to load the desktop first. While in desktop, insert the server installation CD disk.
Linux desktop auto loads the upgrade files to enable you to use the server. Plus you have the advantage of a GUI.
Hope that gets you started.
