Samba Shares on Ubuntu 8.04 - Random Disconnects and Slow copying
ello - plez can anyone help?
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (2.6.24-21-generic) with Samba Version 3.0.28a.
It used to work fine until one day - not sure if I changed something; but the following symptoms started appearing.
I have both Windows 32bit and another machine with Windows 64bit - when I copy to the the linux fileserver the copy is extremely slow, but I have a gigabit network.
If I copy 5 files at the same time - all of a sudden, the copy speed significantly increases for all those files and more of the gigabit connection speed is used, but if I select five files at the same time copying it is very slow, becaue they are not copied in parrallel but in serial - that is, "one at a time".
Then also; let's say i'm busy with a large download from the internet - that file remains open on the server for the duration of the download; now if I sometimes (intermittently) access one of the fileserver shares to use another file from the fileserver; all the connections to the server disconnects and the downloaf fails because samba reports to windows that the file is no longer available; but if I press F5 to refresh the view in Windows - everything is back to normal.
Is anyone familiar with the problem that I'm having? plez
Summary -
1) Intermittent disconnects when accessing multiple files through Samba on a windows machine.
2) Extremely slow copy speed on a gigabit network!
If you need more information - I will gladly provide!
