I am new to SAMBA, I want to replace Windows AD with SAMBA so I want to know what policies restrictions I can get in SAMBA as compared to windows AD -- whether it is possible to restrict clients not to change IP, access cdrom or control pannel .
The available functionality is closer to NT 4.0 than Windows 200x. Windows 200x GPO's reside in memory. Samba and NT 4.0 functionality write to the registry of the workstation.
Be sure to test them properly before putting them into production. You may also want to create a policy template that can reverse them. They update the registry.
