SAMBA and Windows 7 Professional issue: folders empty

Hello,

(This is my first post on Linux Questions forums.)

I'm having issue SAMBA server. From Window 7, any SAMBA folders show up as empty folders. All of those SAMBA volumes are with guest access on, so any users can read and write (basically there is no security settings.)

All of the samba volumes can be accessed with Windows XP and Mac OS X. I've never had Windows & PCs on the LAN, and now I've just found out this issue.

The Linux server is SuSE Linux 10 (I know it's dated, but only samba is used) and Samba version is 3.024223129610.
I use Webmin 1.410, I haven't edited Samba configuration file with text editor.

All I need is to be able to set up the SAMBA, so that it can be accessed from Windows 7 PCs.

Please help!

Thank you,

JVC

Welcome to the forums

Take a look at the following post as this worked for our issue.

Samba shares not writeable

I had the similar issue with windows 7 workstations (last paragraph on my comment #3) we had the option of adding the line under global as "security = share" under global settings which killed access from XP workstations or change the local security policy setting of the windows 7 workstations "Microsoft Network Client - Digitally sign communications if server agrees set to - disabled"

Dear rog_ski,

Thank you for the reply. I finally tried the solution you suggested (change the local security policy setting of the windows 7 workstations "Microsoft Network Client - Digitally sign communications if server agrees set to - disabled"), but it didn't work.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Assuming that you dont work in an ldap / nis environment...

If security is not an issue, change the permissions of the files in the linux share to world writable - chmod -R 666 <samba share>
