samba 2 servers one domain

I recently added a second server to my network and added it to the same domain as the existing one with a view to using the new one as a office filesystem and PDC and the existing one as a mailserver/database server

All good. I added the new one initially as just another server running samba. Added all the users to it with a generic password and when logged onto the network using the old server as a PDC I can map drives on my windows XP workstation to the new server without credentials.

And that's all good. The problem comes when I tried making the new server the PDC and mapping drives to the old server. It keeps asking for a password for both mapped drives and the outlook imap connection. Not the behavior I want.

Why is it doing this and how can I fix it. Tried having the two machines in different domains and establishing a trust relationship, I tried having them both in the same domain. I just cannot seem to get anywhere.

If anyone has a good idea for this setup
Domain OFFICE
Server 1 mail services (RHL3) name SERVER1
Server 2 PDC fileshares (SUSE10) name SERVER2

so that logins do not have to occur on SERVER 1 when mapping drives, that would be great

Cheers
