Restricting web access to local computer

Hi,

I am going to set up vtiger on my computer so that I have a CRM contact management system on my computer and would like to ensure that the only way to access it is from the same computer. I would prefer to set up a non-server based solution but I am unable to find one that does not cost alot of money.

Please advise how to create such restriction. I thought it would be easy to do but actually could not find this on the web (found lots on how to restrict by user/password but still gives remote access as well as open to remote vulnerabilities.) Alternatively, if anyone knows of a fully featured open source sales pipeline application that is not web based, that would be great as well.

Thanks

You should be fine...just don't allow Apache to answer requests from external addresses. There are lots of tutorials and how-to's on this site, and on Google, to show you how to use IPtables to block access to certain ports. Alot of Linux flavors have Firewall config options in their 'admin utilities', like OpenSuSE has in Yast.

You don't say what version/distro of Linux you're running, so it's hard to be specific.

Unhappy Perhaps I'm in the wrong place

I used to come here all the time due to the great help I receive with Linux and it did not occur to me that on LinuxQuestions I should have a question related to Linux. Logic did not kick in in time.

I will be actually running it on a Windows workstation. Not my choice but its what is provided for this role. As such I don't have IP tables.

I appreciate your reply.

Found an answer at http://www.websitepublisher.net/foru...ead.php?t=4348 that I assume will work on both windows and Linux versions of Apache

Thanks again.

The link you provided is the way to solve your problem on both Linux and Windows.

in httpd.conf, under the <Directory "/var/www/html"> directive, add the lines:

Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from ip.number.goes.here

That works well. If you have any other Directory directives, you will need to copy those lines there.
