Re-Installing broken Gnome Desktop on a RHEL box.

Morning All, I have a RHEL 4 box with a broken GNOME package. It boots to TWM. I have looked at some of the posts that recommend looking at config files etc. No .xinitrc file found. Cannot "exec gnome-session" , cannot find file. No choice at login screen. Some Gnome files are on the machine. How do download and re-install the entire Gnome-Desktop package? Thanks.

Have you got yum ?

Code:
yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"
You might also need
Code:
yum install gdm

You must have up2date on there as well.
You can try using the command I gave but replace yum with up2date

Have you still got a redhat subscription ?

For RHEL 4 the tool is 'up2date'; yum came in for v5.
Here's a Rosetta Stone for you
