Pure-ftpd vs windoze

This is probably more of a XP issue, but anyway: I've got a pure-ftp server running on FC6 with virtual users chrooted into their own folder. Each virtual user relates to a project in our office. Staff in the office connect to the ftp folders over our lan via ftp from WinXP machines using a setup in "My network places".
The problem is a staff person cannot setup more than one "network place" connection to one folder. They can go through the steps to set up another connection, and it looks correct, but when they connect to the new connection, with a new user name and new password, it always displays the contents of the first ftp "network place" they made, which has a different username/password. I've even tried deleting all ftp "network place" configs and making a new one, same result, it only shows the original folder.
Consultants outside of our office connecting with ftp over the internet do not seem to be having this problem even though most, if not all, are using the same "My network place" config on a windows pc.
I've installed the Filezilla ftp client and that seems to get it right. But I'd rather not have to install it on all our XP machines.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi -

You're correct - it's definitely an XP (windows) issue. But, for whatever it's worth:

1. You should be able to edit link properties in in the Network Neighborhood GUI (as you already know)

2. You should also be able to see the "target.lnk" COM/ActiveX shortcut file (aka "Moniker") in the Windows user's directory:

c:\documents and settings\USER-X\NetHood\FTP-SITE-NAME\target.lnk
<= You should see the virtual user's name and password here

Perhaps you can check for potential conflicts/configuration errors with the physical .lnk file, or the physical path that it lives in.

Just a thought .. PSM

PS:
Here's a code snippet to help you analyze in more detail what's in that pesky ".lnk" file (and why it's messing up trying to access your FTP folders):
