I am running a sendmail server on RHEL4 with procmail and fetchmail.

Sometimes fetchmai process hangs up and we doesn't come to know about it.

Last week fetchmail process was hanged for 4 days!!!!!

That user did not get many important mails. When he informed me I killed his fetchmail process and then it again stared working ok and all those mail of last 4 days he got after 4/5 days which caused a major loss.

But as I am handling this server I need some monitor tool for fetchmail if it stucks or any other problem arrvies and server could not fetch mails.

Can ethereal do that ? or any other toolor script.

Have you tried using a log file and having a look for errors?

set logfile /home/user/fetchlog

in your fetchmailrc should do the trick. You can also run it with '-v -v' option to see a more verbose output if run from a terminal.

There's also a timeout option.
