Hello there,
I have a Windows 2003 Server running, it works as the primary domain controller, fileserver, exchange server and so on.
For backup purposes I thought of a linux box. It is quite important to maintain the ownership of each file as it is, so in case of a server crash a file recovery for every domain user does not take long.
In order to announce the windows users to the linux box, I added the linux server to the active directory. getent passwd and getent group show now both, the local unix users/groups and the windows users/groups.
I am also able to establish samba shares, that respect the windows groups and usernames.
But, and that is the more important question to me: how do I mount a windows share on linux, so that the ownership of the files stays untouched? as far as my experiments show, the ownership of mounted files (with mount -t cifs...) is always changed to the user that executes the mount command. creating a tar archive now is of course useless, because the original windows usernames are lost.
I hope that I could clearly explain my problem
Thank you for any hints,
clemens
