Postmail reporting permission denied on mailboxes

I have a mail server, and periodically (not all the time), Postfix will bounce a message reporting a permission problem: access denied on a user's box.

Here's the process:

mail sent to info@ which is an alias for maryann@.

MaryAnn reads her mail and forwards the message to mw@ and sometimes the message will get bounced.

We did have another alias for info@, called infobak@ that was set up as a backup for the maryann@ box. But we started getting lots of bounced messages on that box, so we removed it. Now it's picked another box to have problems with.

Here's the text for the message:
Quote:
This is the Postfix program at host mail.xxxxxxxxx.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to <postmaster>

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your
own text from the attached returned message.

The Postfix program

<mw@xxxxxxxxx.com>: cannot access mailbox /var/mail/mw for
user mw.
error writing message: Permission denied

Does mw have write permissions to /var/mail/mw?:
Code:
ls -l /var/mail/mw
Also, check the logs, in case there's more info there.

yes, that file is owned by mw and the group is mail, just like all the other mailboxes are.

I'll try to look in the log and see what I can find.

Problem discovered and resolved.

The problem was with the max allowed mailbox size for Postfix. Both of the boxes that have had problems are boxes that receive lots of mail, and it's left on the server for several days at a time (both users have multiple machines that access their box), and their clients are only set to remove every 5 days. So, the box would fill up, and report errors until the client deleted messages. So I upped the size limit for the boxes.

Glad I got it figured out and fixed.

Very good. Thanks for posting back with the solution. It would be interesting to know whether the cause was reported in your log files.
