pcbsd server processes question / server optimization (newbie question)

How can I optimize my running processes for my server? It is going to be handling a lot of traffic.

I also noticed that there was a httd process running at 50 meg memory - want to optimize this so I don't end up with a lot of rogue httpd processes - or is this loaded for every concurrent visitor?

basically, I'm seeking to optimize my server at this point

Are any of these processes not necessary? Which ones do I kill and are any unusual?
Here's a list with their mem usage:
xorg - 52m
plasma - 36m
ksysguard - 33m
krunner - 31m
kde4 is running multiple instances as is httpd
kmix
nepomukservicestub - multiple instances
kwin
nepomukserver
klauncher
kdeinit4
python
python25
smbd - multiple instances
nmbd
sshd
cupsd
csh
ntpd
kdm-bin - 2 intances
dbus-daemon - 2 instances
getty - multiple instances
powerd
kwrapper4
adjkerntz
devd

Thanks,
Blake

Most of the stuff like xorg, or kwin and k**** you wont need them because thats for X windows and KDE desktop environment. But the issue is that your are using PC-BSD which is more desktop related bsd, its actually the idea of Ubuntu Desktop, but using FreeBSD and KDE desktop. You shouldnt use that as a server, go better with FreeBSD, or try to run the server in run level 3 or 2.
