newbie postfix help

Hey all,

I really need help with postfix. The story is that My ISP's Smtp server will only work on their network and I want to be able to send emails through my mobile phone.

I have set up a dyndns.com account and am able to telnet from the created account back to my box.
unfortunatly i have no idea how to set up postfix.

I need a simple solution for a dummy like me, its only going to have a single user so Im not too concerned if i can get it set up with no passwords or usernames. I have read the faq's and tutorials but unfortunatly it all looks like gibberish to me.

any help would be greatfully appreciated

this is my complete
main.cf

# See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version

# Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first
# line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default
# is /etc/mailname.
#myorigin = /etc/mailname

smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu)
biff = no

# appending .domain is the MUA's job.
append_dot_mydomain = no

# Uncomment the next line to generate "delayed mail" warnings
#delay_warning_time = 4h

# TLS parameters
smtpd_tls_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
smtpd_tls_key_file=/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
smtpd_use_tls=yes
smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtpd_scache
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtp_scache

# See /usr/share/doc/postfix/TLS_README.gz in the postfix-doc package for
# information on enabling SSL in the smtp client.

myhostname =
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
myorigin = /etc/mailname
mydestination = 192.168.1.250, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost
relayhost =
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8
mailbox_size_limit = 0
recipient_delimiter = +
inet_interfaces = all

Do you want to send from your mobile to a single address on your home computer (ie, inbound SMTP) or do you want to send to any address, via your home server (ie, outbound SMTP)?

If you only want inbound SMTP, then that should be relatively easy, however setting up for outbound SMTP will effectively create an open-relay (BAD) unless your phone supports SMTP Authentication? (More complicated)

Does your phone provider not provide an SMTP server for exactly this purpose?

In that case you'll need to setup an outbound SMTP server with SMTP auth - over my head to guide you through it, but I do suggest the guide at qmailrocks.org - http://www.qmailrocks.org

It will setup an SMTP, POP and IMAP server with SMTP auth, and as an added bonus it will have Anti-virus and Anti-spam installed if you want to expand it later.

At the very least, I would setup and Open-Relay, but find out what IP Range your telco uses for mobile phones, then use IP tables to limit SMTP connections from this range, that way at least you're only an Open-Relay to mobile phones on your telco's network (a pretty limited audience for spam origins I imagine)

Thanks for your quick replies but i tried qmr this morning and had a big problem while following the guide, everything happened exactly the way it should have except I got stuck on the bit where it says type ./config-fast YOUR_DOMAIN

unfortunatly when i type it in it says that the command doesnt exist
however doing a ls conf* says theres a conf-fast.sh.
Trying to run ./config-fast.sh gives me a permission denied

any ideas????
