I have CentOS 5.3 server up and running. This server has Internet connection and is working as proxy server apart from other applications. I can update this server from the internet by using "yum update". But I need some thing extra:
1. I have to add few more servers running CentOS. What I want is that the updates should get downloaded on one server and all the servers should fetch and apply them from this download rather than each individual server going to the Net and doing the same operation redundantly.
2. I need to add the installation DVD media as the "first repository" while running yum. How to do that ?

rajesh.bahl
you need to create a local repository, then get all your servers to reference this repository.
2. If you've got the GUI, fire up Add/Remove Software and look for the Edit option. Should just be a qn of ticking the local/DVD repo box.
Otherwise, look in the /etc/yum_updates.d dir (I think it's called; don't have my Centos here)
I just set up something similar to this just recently, but for Red Hat instead. I scripted it with GUI so n00bs here can do it by just typing a number in.
The script basically gives you the options to Register with RHN, sync with RHN, create a local repository, restart apache (As the other box's need to connect via http to the local yum proxy), it won't onfigure Apache though, you have to do that yourself.
Is that sort of what you were after??? I haven't set up the DVD as a local repo though.
