Need a suitable bandwidth monitor

Dear list,

I am seeking some guidance to select a proper web based bandwidth monitor. the scenario is I'm running some virtual hosts on a dedicated linux server. the web server is apache2. I like to do

1> measure the bandwidth each sites are using.
2> The total bandwidth of the dedicated server.

Any suggestion ?
Any command based tool ?

Thanks

mod_bandwidth for apache and mrtg in general... I think should be good... try it.

P.S. maybe mod_bandwidth is called mod_bwlimit, but not sure.

I have no clue, thats what I know, there is a lot of ways to monitor bandwidth, but for apache I think mod_bwlimit and/or mod_bandwidth are the only ones.

I have just seen the documentation and it says these are the bandwidth limiter.

1) Are you after bandwidth as in current network statistics so you don't go over a CIR limit etc? or are you meaning the data transfer total? I am looking for a network CIR based bandwidth monitor for Virtual Hosts too. Awstats (sourceforge.net) is a good tool for data transfer but not so good for network bandwidth usage I fear

2) Total bandwidth - I would suggest either Cacti (Cacti.net) or MRTG (oetiker.ch) - both of which are tools which take your machines SNMP based data.

Bandwidthd is very excellent if you want to chweck the total traffic to and fro a certain host/or for a specific IP, and also you can see the statistics for each protocol.
BUT if you were looking for something that gives you web statistics, then you have to look at AWSTats or even the simple plugins on Webmin.

Nice feedback. Yes I like to know the data transfer per day/month/hour basis.
I tried bandwidthd but it is not working for me. I have found in google that it is buggy but still some people are using it. I don't know the tric to make it working but it is reallu a cool thing to have.

On the other hand monitoring the transfer rate is also required as some times the sites become slow and it would be really helpful to know the actual reason if it is due to bandwidth or something else ( with top).

I'll look into awstat but nice if any one can disclose the fact to run bandwidthd.

Thanks

Another idea would be to use ntop. This might help you with the network statistics. Try it see how it goes.
