mod_rewrite - AllowOverride Settings - blank screen

Hello everyone,

if I would like to use mod_rewrite in Apache 2.2.3 how can I setup

Allowoverride settings ? All rules for mod_rewrite I have in the .htaccess. This file is 100% correct because its come from opensource cms and for other people works perfectly. For me, unfortunately not.

I`m using Debian Etch 4.0.

<Directory "/var/www">

What should I put here if I would like to use mod_rewrite ?

</Directory>

would be great if somebody can help me
