Missing some process I/O stats with CentOS 4.8

I was just looking at process I/O data with collectl on CentOS for the first time and much to my surprise, not all counters were there!

[root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/self/io
read_bytes: 0
write_bytes: 0
cancelled_write_bytes: 0

no counters for syscalls or char I/Os. Is this a normal thing? Do other distros do this? Since this is debranded rhel I suspect at least some release of that is missing them as well. I would have expected nothing or all 7.
