mailserver

I have a DNS server (Domain name local.com), sendmail and pop3 server configured on my machine (hostname server1). I had an entry in the /etc/mail/virtusertable: .local.com tami. thus all email coming to anyone@local.com went to the tami mailbox. I understany that was because of the entry in the virtusertable. My Problem is when i remove that line no one, not even tami gets mail. Do I have to have an entry in my virtuasertable for each user on my mail server?

Well, that's sendmail, which I have no experience with. In Postfix you can end up with a similar situation where mail for a virtual domain is only delivered to the listed virtual users in which case it's a matter of changing what the mail server thinks is the local domain, the domain that it delivers mail to local recipients for. However, I don't know why your configuration was working at all before if that was the case.

If you put a "tami@local.com tami" entry in that virtuser file, does mail get delivered for tami? If so, I'd say that's what's going on. If you send email out say just using the mail command, what's the sender's address? That may give some hint as to what the server thinks is going on.
