Mail server for mail hosting business: discussion post

Dear All,

I have been using qmail to provide service to our mail hosting customer. I did able to use domain quota, provide per domain pstmaster panel to each of my customer.

But all of my server was on cent5 and now we are having many problems. So I am seeking your assistance what type of MTA server I can implement to provide mail hosting service.

I need to assign per domain quota, per user quota and per domain admin panel. I tried qmailtoaster, vestacp cwp already. but none of them seems capable of providing same service as qmail.

What solutions are you using.

Sorry, this makes no sense at all. You said you were using qmail on CentOS 5, and say you're having 'many problems'...you don't actually TELL US what these 'many problems' are, but if you're on such an old OS, you probably just need a new server.

Since this is for your 'customer', and you say you know qmail...why are you not just USING QMAIL AGAIN??? And it sounds like you don't know what qmailtoaster even IS...since it's only a way to MAKE INSTALLING QMAIL EASIER. Even a step-by-step how-to on getting qmail installed on CentOS:
http://www.qmailtoaster.net/

And since this is for your 'customer', and you're getting paid to provide them services, have you actually asked them what THEY want/need in a mail server? Because that will determine what to use.

Dear TBOne, Thank you for your reply. Mainly I wanted to have a general discussion about mail solutions providing by many around the world. I wanted to know how other are providing specialized mail solutions to their customer including spam filter service, webmail services etc.

For the discussion, I have written about the solution I am providing currently, then why I want to move from old OS as I am having some
trouble. I did not write about my issues because that might lead to different direction.

All I am saying is that I am using Qmail for shared mail hosting service. I tried vestacp, centos web panel and qmail toaster but all have some disadvantage for end users.

I would like to know what other are using for providing mail hosting service other than cpanel or any other product that require license. Hope this time, I am able to explain my intention.

Again: qmail toaster is a METHOD OF INSTALLING QMAIL, and web panel/vestacp are NOT mail servers at all, but front ends to manage services ON a server. Again, what you're saying makes little sense, nor does the question in general. There is no 'best' solution, and what works for one person/situation may not work at all for others. There are MANY well-known mail server packages such as postfix and sendmail, and loads of others you can find with a brief search.

How you manage them, what plugins or add-ons you may need will depend on your skills, hardware, environment, end-goals, and what's in front of/behind that MTA. There is no discussion to have; YOU need to talk to your customer and find out their needs and then YOU need to meet those needs by doing the research and work needed.

Your intention seems clear; you would like us to provide free consulting services to you, so you can pass them along to your customer.

We recently migrated our domain hosting server from CentOS 5.11 to CentOS 7.6 We were using qmail on the old server, and are using qmail on the new server. We saw no reason to change the MTA. qmail works just fine to support multiple domains with multiple mailboxes each.

So, in the spirit of your OP, our response is don't change. Continue to use qmail, given that you're familiar with it. (You are, aren't you?)

As TB0ne has pointed out, qmailtoaster is not an MTA, but one way to install and configure qmail (that hasn't been updated since 2012, according to its change logs). vestacp and centos web panel are not MTAs either, so I'm a bit confused as to why you mention them in this context.

In short, my answer also is to continue to use qmail.
