hello everyone,
i am trying to setup a linear raid on 3 old IDE/ATA hard disks i had 'laying around'. one is 120GB and another 2 of 40GB each.
so i followed the instructions from the raid howto:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-5.html#ss5.4
i put a new entry in /etc/raidtab file so now it looks as
Code:
nass@stargaze:~$ cat /etc/raidtab
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 5
nr-raid-disks 4
nr-spare-disks 0
persistent-superblock 1
parity-algorithm left-symmetric
chunk-size 128
device /dev/sdb1
raid-disk 2
device /dev/sdc1
raid-disk 3
device /dev/sdd1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/sde1
raid-disk 1
raiddev /dev/md1
raid-level linear
nr-raid-disks 3
persistent-superblock 1
chunk-size 128
device /dev/hde1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdg1
raid-disk 1
device /dev/hdh1
raid-disk 2
as you can see i have already a raid5 on some other drives and this raid5 works nicely during boot up.
now i set the hd[egh] type of the disks to 0xFD (linux raid autodetect) and generated a node /dev/md/1 with
and changed the attributes to be
ls -l /dev/md/1 -> 660 root disk
and finally i put a symlink of /dev/md/1 in /dev/md1
then i generated the linear raid array with mkraid /dev/md1.
at this point the array is running i verfied it with cat /proc/mdstat.
but when i reboot the /dev/md/1 node does not exist anymore, and the raid drives are not 'brought together'
Code:
root@stargaze:/dev/md# lsraid -p
[dev 9, 0] /dev/md0 A05127A7.6564DA58.72ED4934.882DCB97 online
[dev 8, 49] /dev/sdd1 A05127A7.6564DA58.72ED4934.882DCB97 good
[dev 8, 65] /dev/sde1 A05127A7.6564DA58.72ED4934.882DCB97 good
[dev 8, 17] /dev/sdb1 A05127A7.6564DA58.72ED4934.882DCB97 good
[dev 8, 33] /dev/sdc1 A05127A7.6564DA58.72ED4934.882DCB97 good
[dev 33, 1] /dev/hde1 676A8741.F692F5CE.31132577.8DAE2691 unbound
[dev 34, 1] /dev/hdg1 676A8741.F692F5CE.31132577.8DAE2691 unbound
[dev 34, 65] /dev/hdh1 676A8741.F692F5CE.31132577.8DAE2691 unbound
could it have something to do that these are IDE disks? could they be handled differently compared to the SATA drives?...
the thing is at startup the node /dev/md/1 does not exist.. which basically means the system has not identified these raided drives...
is there a certain step i have to take thhat i haven't considered?
thank you for your help
