Is there a point to SSHD and VSFTPD if I only want SFTP?

For fun/convenience I am running SSHD and VSFTPD. Is this pointless?

I just read that I can connected via SFTP to SSHD. So do I really need to have an FTP server if I only want secure file transfers and want to explicitly disable unsecured connections?

well yes, vsftpd and sftp have nothing in common whatsoever, it's all down to ssh.

I'm running your setup as well. My reason is that it is quite easy to jail users to their homedirectory using VSFTPD while it's not so easy with SFTP.

According to the latest sshd_config(5) man page, there is indeed a ChrootDirectory option: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.c...penBSD+Current

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 and we don't have it though. Maybe it will be available with Hardy.
