How to start webmin login page on runlevel 3

Hi folks,

Ubuntu 7.04 server amd64

IIRC webmin does not require X to run. Performed following steps on runlevel 3;

$ sudo /etc/webmin/start login
Code:
Password:
Starting Webmin server in /usr/share/webmin
$ /usr/share/webmin/
Code:
Display all 151 possibilities? (y or n)

Please advise how to start webmin console/login in page on runlevel 3 instead of running "https://localhost:10000" on browser. TIA

B.R. and Happy New Year

OR I need text browser to start webmin?

Webmin requires that you use a browser that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module).

You could use a console based browser like links or lynx if you really want to connect to webmin in a console, but I think that's against the whole idea of webmin in the first place. I've never used Webmin with a console based browser but I can't imagine that it's pretty.

I hope the info helps,

Good luck

Webmin runs as a service on your server. You have to access it from a browser, but it can be running and functioning perfectly fine without X.

You'll need to use a client to manipulate it though.

If you want webmin to start on boot in runlevel 3, you'll need to use ubuntu's service manager to set it up.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your advice.

On my server webmin starts automatically when the server is up. I tried lynx/links/elinks/w3m/links2. None of them can make webmin to work. The only solution to use webmin w/o X is on a remote PC running "https://ipadress:10000" on a GUI browser. I haven't discovered a text browser which can use webmin without starting X.
