how to setup a mail server in ubuntu server 7.1


hey, guys, i'm jus new to linux.
i just installed ubuntu server in a LAN with 20 pc running WIN xp, and i want to create a mail server for this LAN.

The only thing that i need is to send email only through LAN, i have no internet connection so i want just a mail server runnign in ubuntu server 7.1 to make all this 20 other pc running windows xp sending email to each other.

Is there a tool i must install and a step by step to configure a mail server in ubuntu server??

the perfect server is a bit too much for a simple intranet LAN.

are you looking for an internal pop/smtp server only, or do you also want calendaring functions like MSexchange?

Yes, i only need to send email through the lan, using for example outlook. i have no internet conection, so the problem is still remaining.

I didn't mean the op should implement all of the guide, just take the bits required to achieve what is needed and disregard the rest.

install postfix, switch email to run from that
set up user accounts and start using it. it's very simple, and exaple configs are all over the internet
