Help to upgrade RHEL from 6.4 to 7.x

Dear All,
I am not much familier with Linux.
We are planning to upgrade our CMS System to Latest Version and the Latest Version CMS required RHEL7.X, (Latest CMS deprecated RHEL6.X). So, We contact our System Engineers to upgrade RHEL to 7x from 6.4 but they said that upgrading OS to Major Version wont be successful and will give issues in Features. So, They are suggesting to Format the Server and Install RHEL7 freshly.
In this case we need to Install & Configure our CMS from the beginning.
So, Kindly please let me know whether will get any issues for upgrading OS from 6X to 7X?
Thanks
Jay

basically you DO NOT upgrade 6 to 7

redhat has NOT supported inplace upgrades of major versions !

now this is changing with RHEL7
-- but make a FULL BACK UP FIRST

with 7 you should be able to use yum to "dist upgrade" to rhel8

for 6 to 7

a full new CLEAN INSTALL

one main reason is SystemV to SystemD
rhel6 used the old systemV int setup
Rhel7 uses the new SystemD

MAJOR issues with running Apache
the systemV VS SystemD issue

do a new clean install of rhel7

Actually, they do support upgrades from 6 to 7 in certain cases: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/21964

However, they always recommend a fresh, clean install.

Install fresh 7, last application version, clone data to it, do tests, then switch over.
That is usual flow that I did for years.
