help a newbie install managesieve on centos

Hi everyone,

I am trying to install sieve+ManageSieve onto my Centos5 box that runs Dovecot 1.0.7. (all this so I can hopefully get avelsieve running on my SquirrelMail 1.4). Unfortunately it appears as though newer versions of dovecot are not well supported in Centos 5 (certainly yum feels that way), and so it looks like I'm stuck with having to try and compile ManageSieve.

I've been to the instructions page for installing ManageSieve (the Dovecot 1.0-friendly one - http://wiki.dovecot.org/ManageSieve/Install/1.0 ), but I am relatively new to the programming side of linux and I don't really understand how to complete this compile.

I've downloaded the manageSieve tarball, but I don't understand what is meant by "apply to downloaded patch to your dovecot-1.0 source tree". As far as I am aware, I don't seem to have a source tree (is a 'source tree' a folder?) Again, I'm on centos 5, and I have an /etc/dovecot.conf... but I couldn't find any directory?

There's quite a few other things I don't understand about the later part of compilation... but I will get to them when I need to. These would want to be good filters!

Thanks in advance,

scott

I don't know anything about this add on, but you probably just want the rpms here http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/...t-managesieve/ assuming that is compatible with the standard dovecot on el5. they are referring to when you have built your dovecot installation from source, as opposed to from rpm like you probably have.

Thanks for the quick reply!

So I managed to download and install that package, but i'm still having problems with getting filters to run on my server. I've got it to the point where avelsieve plugins are running ok in my SquirrelMail (SquirrelMail displays the devault avelsieve table.php, and users can input/save/edit rules)... it's just that the rules aren't executing.

For example, i've setup an avelsieve rule for my user joe@mydomain.com , to forward "all messages" to "joeuser@hotmail.com" (as well as keep a copy on the server). The rule looks like it should work; and although I can of course log into my webmail manually and send/receive emails ok, there is no indication of any forwarding whatsoever.

It's almost like a system service isn't running? I'm not sure whether it's supposed to, but I don't appear to have any tmisieved or other managesieve services in my list of services.

port 2000 is open.

I have installed:
dovecot 1.2.17 and
dovecot-managesieve 0.11.12 and
dovecot-sieve 0.1.19

squirrelmail 1.4.8 ... all on centos 5.6 (x64).

I'm also running SSL/SASL/MailScanner/Postgrey.

thanks again!

Unhappy bump

anyone? any thoughts on this?
Will avelsieve (the squirrelmail front end) run if the back-end isn't configured correctly? Are there sieve 'services' that i need to install/turn on?
