FTP Server Slow Depending On File
Hey guys and gals, I'm just posting this here cause I was hoping one of you knowledgeable folks could help me out.
I have a computer that I installed XUbuntu on, and I'm using it as a file server. It is running vsftpd as the server. I have also set it up to use LVM so that I can stick several drives in there and they'll act as one big one. There is a 1TB drive and a 250GB drive combined into one volume, where I store all the data on the server.
My problem is that when downloading things from the server, I can usually get a max download rate of about 11-12MB/s because the server is only equiped with a 10/100 network interface. The thing is, some of the files only download at 1-2MB/s.
I've figured out that files that were put onto the server first will download at the fast speed, while files that have been recently added download at the much slower rate. Could this be because I have filled up the 1TB drive and now things are going onto the 250GB? This doesn't make much sense to me because that 250GB drive should be able to fetch data faster than 1-2MB/s.
Does anyone have any input? I have no idea what to do, and I'd really like things to go at the 12MB/s speed, because I use the server quite frequently.
Thanks!
