Hi i just updated my fedora 6 php.
HOW ? fedora 6 has been DEAD since it hit End Of Life in Dec. 2007
the repos were moved to the historical archives not soon after
yum is and has been dead on fedora 6 for about 4 years

if you attempt to use a binary built for a new and supported system
the binary will not work on the dead "6" version of fedora

if you need a NEWER version of php
then install a SUPPORTED version of fedora
15 is current and 16 will be released soon .

fedora 6 has not had a security update in 4 years
there are 4 years worth of unfixed holes
it is STRONGLY advised you install a SUPPORTED version
fedora 15
or the long life RHEL 6

but
If you MUST use a version of fedora that has NEVER TO BE FIXED problems then see the fedora " End Of Life" forum thread
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=75
