Failover (without load balancing)?

Morning all.

I'm currently setting up a private server that needs to be up 24/7, and I'd like it to have failover (already have 2 systems with identical hardware running).

But I don't need load balancing, Just when node 1 goes down, have node 2 take over automatically.

I know it can be done for the web server using Apache, but what about other services (MySQL and ShoutCast transcoder)?

I have a 3rd server available to act as the proxy, if needed, but no idea on how to set them up.

Thanks in advance for all the suggestions!

That seems to be aimed more at clusters though.

All I really need is a way to watch to see if the primary server goes down, and if so, transfer to the secondary server. Preferably a low resource, low maintenance setup. Bonus points if it could wake-on-lan the second server.
