Dovecot security

Can we limit access to dovecot by user?

If yes, how to do it?

Thank you.

Got to the dovecot site and look at the documentation - the wiki is full of authentication setups.

You could read dovecot.conf if you are running it in CentOS, since it's pretty complete on authentication. Not sure about Debian.

Thank you billymayday for your reply, but I already went to dovecot.org and couldn't find an answer to my problem.

I want to allow a single linux user to retrieve email from my server using POP3.

Do you mean you only want one user to use pop and the others to use imap, or only one user to have acces?

If the former, just set up some form of authentication to allow the user of you choice. If the latter, I'm not sure - try two instances of dovecot perhaps - on imap, one pop with different authentication. That may be over complicating things.
