delays=0.08/0.08/0/0.04, dsn=5.2.0, status=bounced (cannot update mailbox /dev/null/~/mail for user dustin. unable to create lock file /dev/null/~/mail.lock: Not a directory)
after reading this line in the log I went back to my postfix main.cf
there is a line:
home_mailbox = /home/%u/mail
but how do i get postfix to quit appending the /dev/nul/ to the start of that ?
okay I went through my config files in both postfix and dovecot
changed all the mail box locations back to there default locations
and now I am back at sqare one again.
May 6 09:40:42 Rppt dovecot: POP3(dustin): mkdir(/var/mail/dustin/cur) failed: Permission denied
May 6 09:40:42 Rppt dovecot: POP3(dustin): mkdir(/var/mail/dustin/cur) failed: Permission denied
May 6 09:40:42 Rppt dovecot: POP3(dustin): Couldn't open INBOX: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. [2008-05-06 09:40:42]
well now you are potentially back to relatively simple ownership issues. That directory should be owned by your dustin user, as should all directories beneath /var/mail/dustin
right but i deleted out the entries and was going to let dovecot and postfix create them automaticly and this is what i end up with.
May 6 10:05:54 Rppt dovecot: POP3(dustin): stat(/var/mail/dustin/cur) failed: Not a directory
May 6 10:05:54 Rppt dovecot: POP3(dustin): stat(/var/mail/dustin/cur) failed: Not a directory
its not trying to create the directories
there is a file there named dustin
that was created by postfix and it has my messages appened in to it.
if i point dovecots mail location to /home/%u/mail
it doesnt find my messages because they are stored in the file 'dustin'
under /var/mail/
this is what that file looks like

thus i can send mail with outlook, but now it never receives it
In dovecot.conf, comment out any lines with "mail_location" in them, and try again. Dovecot shouldn't need you to define where mail is kept unless you have some weird configuration. Don't forget to restart the service.
How would I increase the max message size that the server will allow.
IE. some one wants to send me a Turbo-cad drawling file thats 40 megs, the server wants to break it up in to 10000 peaces I would righter it not do that.
Question for you. You seem to be using Maildir format for your messages, but everytime I see your dovecot setup, you refer to mbox. Which are you trying to use?
