DNS Server setup - needs advise

Hi guys,

Kindly help with some advise on this scenario:

I have a Windows Server acting as a DNS server, it has several forward and reverse-public IP entries(x.x.x.x/24). I just setup another DNS server on Ubuntu-18 - hopefully as a backup DNS server. Its working well though for internet bound queries.

I want to have a copy of all forward & reverse dns entries in the windows server into the ubuntu server.

First, I want to confirm that the Ubuntu DNS server is working as I want it to: for reverse-IPs to resolve correctly from the internet. So as a test, I deleted some dormant reverse-IP entries on my windows server, and configured them into the Ubuntu server.

Its over 24hours and Im trying to do lookups from Centralops.net, however I do not get the expected response from the Linux server

From my windows server, when I do an IP-nslookup, here is what I get:
===================
Sending DNS query for <public-ip>.in-addr.arpa...

default-resolver returned a non-authoritative response in 831 ms:

Answer records
name class type data time to live
<public-IP>.in-addr.arpa IN PTR <public-ip>.clientxxx.domain-name.com 14400s (04:00:00)
===================

However when I do the same reverse IP-lookup for a reverse IP configured in my Ubuntu server, I dont get any result.

Response code: NameError
=====================

Notes:
- both servers have public IPs; however for a test, the new linux server is mapped to a domain different from the windows.

Please help / advise

regards
TK

I believe that if you want to use a domain as a name server, you need to specify that in the registry for that domain. Have you done that with the new domain?
