dm/mulitpath event notification -- actionable?

Hi,

I'm a bit new to DM/mulitpath and hope this is the correct place to post this question.

If I have DM/multipath enabled on a dual path (for the sake of argument: a Fibre Channel LUN) and one of the paths becomes unavailable, there is an event captured in the system log that details which path disappeared (similarly if it reappears).

My question are there any hooks in the mulitpath software that allows me to perform an action when this event triggers?

Barring that, will the path disappear/appear trigger udev rules? This actually is preferable.

Thanks,

Wim

If you are logging messages to the system log e.g. /var/log/messages then running a monitor such as Nagios would be able to trap a given message and run a script, program, or send and email, etc.

You don't need any special hooks in multipath to generate a trigger. I'm actually generating email pages when certain Multipath events occur. This is all being done by Nagios.
