Thanks predatorz.
Recently, mysql package got erased in the server by Yum update.
I found following message in the yum.log,
"Erased: MySQL-server-standard
Erased: MySQL-client-standard"
Are you having idea on how can i avoid this happening again?

My 1cent.
You keep telling him how to do it with yum but clearly he's still using a version of RHEL and RHN with up2date, well, that's what it appears like if they're referring to up2data, which is actually up2date.

dianarani,

If you're really using up2date and not yum, the syntax is pretty straight forward in the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date file. Just specify the packages by name.

Example:

pkgSkipList=mysql*;

That would skip all packages starting with mysql.
