Unhappy Central Logging Server using Webmin

Hi - I'd like to install a centralized logging server using webmin but not so sure on how to approach this on an existing ubuntu 12.10 server. I have an existing webmin 1.610 server that does samba/nfs/cifs acting as a nas file server but also wanted to use this as my central logging server where I can point all my linux and windows system logs, possibly my cisco router/sw logs as well. I can avail extra disk space as I have a san that I can mount a disk on. Can someone please advise? Cheers -DB

Hello,

As far as I know, webmin is only a frontend for several services so you'll need to set up or at least install the necessary packages (syslog, rsyslog, syslog-ng, ...) to have a centralized log server. Once you've made a choice and installed the necessary packages you can install the module you need in webmin, for example syslog.wbm.gz for syslog or syslog-ng.wbm.gz, and use webmin to configure and administer your newly installed service. Look at the webmin documentation on how to proceed.

Kind regards,

Eric
