Can't connect to mail server (postfix+dovecot)

Hi. Im using this tutorial http://www.debianadmin.com/debian-ma...rrel-mail.html

Everything seems to work when I test it with telnet: dovecot is listening, accepting passwords and remote logins. The problem is I can't connect to the server using Thunderbird 3.x What would be the proper settings for it? I tried all combinations?
ps. I haven't setup squirrel mail

You are not getting mails on your thunderbird account, is it correct?

If you have sendmail, uninstall it.
Restart the postfix and try again.

I've removed sendmail and postfix is running. The problem is I can't set Thunderbird properly to connect to the server. Whatever values I enter it says it can't connect.
