bitvise and/or putty client with SSH server

Hi-

I installed the two ssh clients.
On my linux box:
foo123q@ubuntu:/etc/init.d$ ./ssh status
* sshd is running

openssh is my ssh server installed now with NO modifications in sshd_config.

I get a timeout when I try to connect with ssh client.

in /etc/hosts.allow i specified:
sshd: 121.42. :allow # the actual ip here is my private network range

in /etc/hosts.deny i specified
sshd: ALL: deny

I set my ufw (firewall) to accept port 22:

I uncommeted the ssh_config option to allow a password authentication.

Is there any other tricks I can try to connect?
I'd rather just keep it with passwords for now to test it and learn how to add keys a little later.

I get a timeout msg. I am running mcafee in win 7 and ufw ubuntu.

thanks for any tips!

Hi-

I noticed I can't ping my other computer from windows. I have to figure out how to do that first. I also don't have a program that I can do the command ssh ip_address_goes_here in windows.

I will work on those. I had to shut down my system and restart. McAfee goes crazy 'mcshield' and uses all the computing power.

thanks

Hi-

It was an easy fix. I searched the forums and saw a thread about not being able to ping. What had happened was I had a 'guest' network with my AT&T mifi hotspot. I needed to switch it to 'main' instead of guest network. I will work on keys later on today.

I wanted to fool with this again to refresh my memory on the process.

thanks
